Dr. Yasmin Whirl, affectionately known as Dr. Yaz, is a native of Toomsboro, Georgia, whose life reflects a passion for faith, education, leadership, and empowering others to discover their purpose.
A lifelong educator and advocate for personal growth, Dr. Whirl retired in June 2026 after 28 years of dedicated service in public education. Throughout her career with Wilkinson County Schools, she served in numerous educational and leadership capacities, making a lasting impact on students, families, and the community. Her commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in her Doctorate and Specialist degrees in Educational Leadership, Specialist and Master’s degrees in Counseling, and Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She is also a proud graduate of Fort Valley State University, a historically Black college and university (HBCU).
Beyond education, Dr. Whirl is a licensed minister, author, and motivational speaker with a heart for inspiring individuals to embrace their journey, overcome life’s challenges, and walk boldly in their purpose. Licensed into ministry in 2009, she has served in various areas of church leadership, including children’s ministry, music ministry, intercessory prayer, and women’s ministry. Her ministry journey has extended internationally, including the opportunity to preach the Gospel in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2018. She also earned a Certificate in Theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center in 2019.
As an author, Dr. Whirl shares messages of faith, resilience, personal growth, and encouragement through her books, The Gift: My Journey of Singlehood (2018) and Dancin’ in the Rain (2021). She is also the founder of the Women on the Frontline Conference, established in 2016, and the host of Tuesday Talk with Dr. Yaz, a virtual platform launched in 2021 to inspire meaningful conversations and personal growth.
Deeply rooted in her family, faith, and rural Georgia upbringing, Dr. Whirl credits her foundation in the church and the influence of mentors and spiritual leaders for helping shape the woman she is today. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.
Whether through writing, speaking, ministry, or leadership, Dr. Whirl remains committed to encouraging others to recognize their potential, navigate life’s transitions, and move forward with purpose.
Her guiding scripture is Philippians 4:13:
